I take pictures of the people I love and the natural world that surrounds them. I capture the small, simple moments that people forget about when they tell about their days, or about their lives. Everyone has a story, and to me, the pauses in between the big events are just as interesting as the events themselves. In this vida cotidiana daily life I find an unexpected, but honest beauty.
My current series is inspired by the long tradition of artists who create images with their loved ones as the central subject. Through the exploration of the human form, I aim to construct an intimate portrait. Ive used both light and depth of field to create an atmosphere that departs from the classical depiction of the male nude and embraces a more contemporary honesty.
As this project evolved, the complexity of the intimate relationship between artist and subject became central to my emotional involvement in the series. With each roll of film, I explored the vulnerability, confidence, and trust of my subject in me as both a photographer and a lover. What began as a study of the male figure became a much deeper exploration of our relationship. The resulting images are glimpses into the quiet hours we spent photographing this series and growing as a pair.
